Confidence? Huh, who are you kidding?

Description

You know this kind of feeling when everyone around you is strictly for one of the two extremes, either they are FOR one thing or for the other one? And little do you find those who ease up and say "everything's relative" about it, those who can find pros and cons in both of those extremes. That's exactly how I feel about the "Tomb Raider" franchise atm. There is now the split between those who prefer the new Lara over the classic one, and those who say she's not Lara anymore. I can agree, yes, with both sides. However, I still think the new Lara is on her way to the top, we have only seen her at her first years of tomb raiding (which we hadn't seen about the classic nor the legend trilogy ones). Not even the first TR\anniversary (and certainly not TR4 Cambodia level) was her first extraordinary adventure, TR Chronicles tells us so. We have never seen her change, we don't know how the transition to the Lara we knew was. Yes, there are some several aspects about what caused her to raid tombs, but, aside from those, what do we know exactly? Nothing? I suppose so. The classic Lara was an icon for her sexy-ish build, badass character and confidence. Part of those had adapted to the CD Lara later on with the legend trilogy, so, basically, it was almost the same Lara people knew. That reboot went smoother. But she didn't start it all from scratch, did she? When Legend came out we saw Lara who was already the Tomb Raider, who opened sarcophagi here and there and drew swords from stones for ages now. I suppose had the CD started it all from scratch back then in 2006 there would've been as much noise about her not being the True Lara again. Just because people aren't used to seeing Lady Croft so weak. Just because they can't accept she can or might've been weak. And what I'm trying to say here is that there's no reason to give up on the new Lara just because she has no double pistols or her boobs as big as her adventures now that she's partially risen. Perhaps, I agree that Lara isn't Lara without her double pistols. That Lara isn't Lara without sarcasm and crispy british jokes. But what is more important - Lara isn't Lara without tomb raiding. And this we have. All the other may come back soon enough. And even if it doesn't, I suppose it's worth taking new Lara as she is. She is a different person, after all. Anyway, you don't wanna be an old farter exclaiming "'TWAS BETTER IN MAH TIMES", do you? Saving the legacy we got to be opened to something new.

And that's what tomb raiding smells like

plz don't say we don't know what Lara used to be like
we do know what she was like and what happened to turn her into her popular classic image and it happened after Cambodia and the black isles
the new TR has no justifiable qualities that make it better except for being a shooter and its style, and even then both are far off what tomb raider is meant to be.

I would have been fine with the reboot had they at least tried to do Lara's real back story. The reboot was just to allow players who weren't part of the series in the past to join now and exclude people who actually valued quality. Even Uncharted is better now which is just sad.
I admit the reboot itself is a good game, but it fails in so many regards to even be considered a successful reboot by heart (it was in terms of popularity successful however).
The game shouldn't replace Tomb Raider because its a very different game.

That and as a reboot they didn't even try to establish who this Lara Croft was in the beginning, they literally relied on the fact people knew the old Lara as an icon and nothing else. At least despite technology back then she set her own stage and had her back story. The new one is a little to basic with what they did considering what more they could have done to present her especially with technology.
That's why as its own game, fine. But at its core its a severe failure to what the series is. Worst part being I'm open to a reboot partial reboots like legend, just not sad failures like the current one.

Real backstory: in her early twenties had been in a plane crash which led to her being stranded in the Himalayas. She had to survive on her wits and by herself as the only known survivor, she eventually came across a village which had helped her. While the description is simple it was obviously something to be expanded upon, if you're curious I can try to get the exact text since I don't know it word for word but yh. After her time in the Himalayas she had found her life too suffocating for her and her parents disowned her and she turned to writing to fund her future. This backstory changed upon Legend as it seems very apparent her parents wouldn't have had the chance to disown her, however this seemed to have been partly recycled for the Legend story but its pretty different lmao

Anyway, more importantly nice picture, sorry I ranted its just I really dislike any statements verging on stating that Lara had no back story, because its not true.
Once again though, cute lighting and the hair looks nice, and the little environment is pretty good too!
